The 6000 and 6100 series slide gate operators drive chain-drive or belt-drive steel gates typically fabricated from 2-inch square tubing or 1.5-inch angle iron frames with aluminum or steel infill. The 9000, 9150, and 9200 series swing gate operators pair with welded steel gate leaves on hinge sets, and the 1601, 1602, and 1603 barrier gate arms are aluminum extrusions, not steel, so welding on those means a different filler and a different approach entirely. The operator model number is on a label inside the control board housing. The gate’s fabrication details are usually not on a label: you’ll measure the steel cross-section with a tape measure, and that measurement drives everything. DoorKing’s steel gates are most commonly 2×2 square tubing (nominal, meaning actual outside dimension is 1.875 inches) with 1-inch or 1.5-inch square pickets, and the hinge brackets are often 1/4-inch plate.

The OEM-versus-aftermarket decision matters less for welding than it does for electronics, because steel is steel whether DoorKing’s fabricator formed it or a local shop did. What matters is that whoever welds the repair matches the wall thickness (most DoorKing gate frames are 11-gauge or 14-gauge, which is roughly 1/8 inch and just under 3/32 inch respectively) and knows what filler to use for galvanized versus powder-coated versus bare steel. Signs Your DoorKing Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

• The gate drags on the concrete or scrapes at the latch point. This usually means a hinge weld has stretched or cracked and the gate leaf is sagging. DoorKing swing gates are heavy, and once a top hinge weld starts to go, the bottom hinge takes the whole load and fails faster.
