Signs Your LiftMaster Keypad or Intercom Is Failing

• Intermittent code entry. You press the code and nothing happens, then it works ten minutes later. This usually points to worn membrane contacts behind specific buttons, not a dead keypad. The fix is often a button-pad replacement rather than a full unit.
• One or two dead buttons. If the “3” and “7” keys stopped responding while the rest still work, the conductive traces under those buttons have oxidized. A keypad swap is one of the few gate repairs a careful homeowner can attempt, provided you match the exact model and confirm the learn-code sequence works with your board. Most people get the pairing right on the second or third try. Where DIY goes wrong: forcing the old keypad off and breaking the mounting screws in the brick, buying a keypad that doesn’t match your operator’s frequency, or shorting the low-voltage wiring when connecting an intercom. Intercoms are a different animal entirely. The audio board carries low voltage, but the transformer feeding it is wired to line power. If you’re not certain which wire is which, don’t open the enclosure.
